4,5 stars! There is something in this series, that it’s easy to fall in love with the atmosphere and heroes of this town. I definitely fell in love and I wouldn’t mind to spend summer in such a place. Or just more time while reading the series.
About the plot: Vaughn Tremaine (36.) came to Hartwell to escape his life in Manhattan. He was only there to build a successful hotel, but somewhere along the way the ocean side town became his home. Great influence also had a certain sassy redhead that he liked, but wasn’t going to have.
Bailey Hartwell (34.) loves her small inn, community and friends in her town. She is also very protective of it all. So when a wealthy businessman came to the Hartwell, she was less than welcoming. However, it seems that he settled here, and has no intention to stop annoying her.
“There was nothing calming about being this attracted to a man I wasn’t even sure I liked very much.”
My thoughts: It’s not flowers and hearts kind of story where the characters fall in love, and together face the problems of life. They don’t have easy path and first must fight with each other and their own desires to have some happy after. Because that, my friends is the enemies to lovers story.
The plot a little slowly getting started, but I already liked the characters from the first book, yes even arrogant Vaughn, and maybe just couldn’t wait until it explodes between this two. And it exploded great.
“I bet you’ve thought about it. Fucking the hostile Princess of the Boardwalk into submission.”
I really wanted to know what the secret lies behind a cold and distant Vaughn. And Bailey, Bailey is a heroine, who is hard not to like. She is outspoken and has no filter. Their bickering were entertaining, but also sometimes give cold shivers.
As for the chills, I have to admit that I had them all the time during their interactions. Those pleasant and not so much. Just their chemistry worked for me. Not only in the sheets, there are really hot scenes, but also outside of it. You may think that there is lot of angst and frustrating behaviors, but for me it was a fantastic road to love, which had to happen.
“I love you, Bailey Hartwell, because you frustrate me, you annoy me, you bother me, you bewilder me, you make me laugh, you get under my skin, you take my breath away.”
What you just have to admit, is the author in excellent way presents secondary characters and creates around them secrets that you want to explore. Therefore, I have no doubt that I just have to read the next part of this series and just can not wait about who it will be. Although really, any of them promises in a fantastic way.
In summary I recommend this book and the series, to anyone who is looking for opposites attract – but don’t want to admit it, kind of stories. Be ready for battle of wits, rejection and indecision, and then you’ll be rewarded with sweet and burning hot moments. And of course, an amazing group of friends, which is simply worth exploring.
